Program Overview & Description This will be the second cardiovascular workshop held at the annual New River Gorge Bridge Festival and will be sponsored by Charleston Area Medical Center and the CAMC Health Education and Research Institute. This year’s workshop is designed to assist the physician caring for patients with complex cardiac problems as a result of illicit drug use. Meet WV expert clinicians dedicated to diagnosing and improving the healthcare of West Virginian’s affected by this public health issue. This program is designed for cardiologists, internists, family practitioners, hospitalists, and emergency medicine practitioners, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Objectives Upon completion of this program, attendees should be able to: ? Describe WV patient epidemiology as related to infective endocarditis and list possible causes ? List emergent management strategies for patients presenting with infective endocarditis and concomitant illicit drug use. ? Cite appropriate surgical interventions available regionally to optimize care of this patient population ? Demonstrate knowledge of pre-operative and post-operative management of the infective endocarditis patient ? Develop care plans that decrease morbidity and costs associated with this patient population and emphasis local and regional partnerships to optimize medical care and long term health of the patient ? Present case presentations at future events utilizing ECHO technology

Location The New River Gorge Bridge Festival offers some of the best views of WV mountains and valleys than anywhere else in this wild and wonderful state. This annual festival features many physical (bridge jumping and 5k races for the adventurous), sensory (Bridge Jam bands and Chili Cook off’s), and educational events. This year CAMC is sponsoring an education event on the Bridge Jam site in Fayetteville, WV. Plan to park in Bridge Day designated parking areas and join us at the CAMC designated tent on the Bridge jam site - Address: 225 W Maple Ave, Fayetteville, WV but entry is through Fayetteville High School (515 W Maple Ave) Music officially begins at 12:30. The New River Gorge Bridge is located on U. S. Route 19, just north of Fayetteville, WV. It is easily reached from Interstates 64, 77, & 79 and from U. S. Route 60 (Midland Trail). It is approximately 30 minutes north of Beckley, 70 minutes east of Charleston, and 70 minutes south of Interstate 79.
