Description:
Program Objectives: The Pediatric Acute and Critical Care Conference will feature lectures, case presentations and educational sessions on a variety of acute and critical care issues facing health care professionals today. This one day conference will focus on current trends in Acute and Critical Care Pediatric medicine. The program is designed for pediatricians, primary care physicians, nurses and allied health professionals involved in the care for children. No pre requisites are required. At the conclusion of this program participants should be able to: • Recognize Indications for transfusions • Understand when Anemia is an emergency • Understand indications for exchange transfusions • Formulate a plan for monitoring and treating the effects of tumor lysis syndrome • Identify masses that need emergent steroid or surgical intervention • Identify and treat fever and neutropenia • Recognize signs and symptoms of pulmonary embolism in children • Plan the initial evaluation and management of pulmonary embolism in children • Know the appropriate initial evaluation and treatment for a patient with sickle cell disease who has a stroke • Plan the appropriate diagnostic evaluation of acute-onset anemia • Plan the appropriate therapy for autoimmune hemolytic anemia • Recognize the clinical features of retroperitoneal hemorrhage in a patient with hemophilia, and manage appropriately • Recognize the clinical features of intracranial hemorrhage in a patient with hemophilia, and manage appropriately
