The 2017 West Virginia Geriatrics Society Scientific Assembly, “The Aging West Virginian” is designed to enhance the care of the geri-atric population and address pressing issues currently on the fore-front of geriatric care. It is designed healthcare professionals, in-cluding physicians, nurses, pharmacists and social workers. This activity will address issues related to hospice care, palliative care, long term care, the issue of opioid addiction and management of pain, plus statistics related to the healthcare professional environ-ment including medically underserved area.
The Proposed content of the CME relates to the diversity seen in our state including the rural nature of our state. This CME , in line with the national American Geriatric Society, will assist the collaborative practice of all disciplines that are involved in Geriatric care in our state. We will increase the knowledge as well as discuss the potential ways the multiple disciplines can and should work together in their scopes of practice.
After attending the Assembly attendees will be able to:
? Recognize how shortages in health care services can impact care
? Verbalize basic understanding of the Long Term Care Federal Rule
? Identify treatment options for HIV/AIDS, HepC, STDs and screen-ing guidance.
? Counsel patients and families about CPR and advanced direc-tives
? Recognize key components of cultural competence in healthcare
