Every 10 days a healthy baby dies in West Virginia because of unsafe sleep conditions and practices. The good news is that these deaths can be prevented through education, consistent messaging, and modeling, all of which will be covered in this training. This module can be used for initial training or orientation, or as a refresher course.

This module is 90 minutes long, and can be reviewed in parts with breaks, as needed.

Objectives Part 1: Providers who are working with expectant parents, and parents and caregivers with infants under one year of age will be able to:
- Identify issues surrounding infant sleep-related deaths nationally and in West Virginia, including the research and why babies die from sudden unexpected infant death
- Understand the American Academy of Pediatrics Guidance recommendations and underlying rationale
- Address the barriers and challenges moving forward and your important role as a messenger

Objectives Part 2: Providers working with expectant parents and parents/ caregivers of infants under one year of age will be able to:
- Describe the Say YES To Safe Sleep program, including parent and provider educational tools
- Deliver initial infant safe sleep messages
- Create a culture of prevention
- Deliver reinforcement infant safe sleep messages
- Describe safe sleep environments
- Be aware of parental norms
- Create a culture of prevention
